“ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURE: Glorious Stories of Fire” 2016
In 2008, the Department of Educational Programs and Communication of the Directorate of Museum planned and launched at national level the communication campaign titled Environment and Culture. The aim of the undertaking was to draw attention to the natural and cultural wealth of the country and sensitize citizens on its safeguard. The axis of the campaign places emphasis on the link between the four classical elements of nature with human thought and creation through the ages.
The thematic of the events and activities that take place this year across the country as part of the celebration is fire. The title ‘flashing fire, source of all arts’, a verse from ‘Prometheus Bound’ by Aeschylus accentuates the significance of fire during antiquity: a fiery force which man managed to tame, thereby turning it into a priceless tool for the progress of culture.
The festivities will be accommodated in 76 archaeological sites, monuments and museums nationwide. The visitors will be given the opportunity to search for and discover the multifaceted qualities of fire with the aid of selected exhibits or specifically designed thematic routes that address the general public, but also special groups, such as associations and Open Protection Centers for Elderly People, educational programs intended for students of primary and secondary education, film screenings, theatrical performances, book presentations and other events.
