“Modern Greek ecclesiastical art: suggestions for the method and the delimitation of its research field”

The Museum of Byzantine Culture invites you cordially to a lecture by Dr. Nikolaos Grekos, Art Historian, titled "Modern Greek ecclesiastical art: suggestions for the method and the delimitation of its research field" on Monday, 26 March 2018, at 20.00 in the Amphitheatre "Melina Mercouri" of the Museum. The director of the Museum of Byzantine Culture Dr. Agathoniki Tsilipakou will recite a prologue.

The lecture will address issues, such as the evolution of the study of Modern Greek ecclesiastical art, its overlaps with other fields, such as Byzantine archaeology and art, social anthropology, art history and theology. It will be proposed its incorporation into the history of Modern Greek art history, with scientific benefits for both disciplines, and the application of new methodologies, such as cultural studies, multimodal "readings" and the inclusion of the iconographic material in its social context.

The event takes place in the context of the temporary exhibition "Templon. Sacred figures, invisible gates of faith", which will last until Saturday, 24 March. ​
