Writing traces…The birth of writing (1985-1999)
It was the first archaeological – educational exhibition designed and implemented by the Educational Programs and Communication Department. It involved the birth and evolution of writing during protohistoric times in Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Greek mainland. The exhibition –initially entitled “The Birth of Writing”- supported by an educational program was presented in Athens (1985, 1988) and in other greek cities in 1986 and 1987. In 1994, the exhibition was enriched by a new thematic unit entitled “Libraries, the Arks of Knowledge” followed by a relative educational programme which involved the foundation and development of libraries during antiquity. During the period 1995-1997 a new unit entitled “From Aleph to Omega” was presented as an additional part of the initial exhibition. It aimed at exploring the birth, progress and spreading of the Greek alphabet during antiquity.
