Hoard of coins and jewelry (late 18th century AD)
In March 2008, during the survey of three shipwrecks, a pile of golden coins was revealed by Louis Mersennie, diver of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities. The hoard was discovered during the removal of a half-buried burned wooden piece and was located around 60 m west of the modern mole.

The seabed of this area becomes smooth at a depth of 12-14 m and is covered by sand.
Due to boats traffic close to the site the hoard was instantly recovered after been photographically documented. 2180 golden coins as well as some jewelry were collected.

The coins were clustered in two main piles of 0.5 X 0.5 m with a distance of 1 m. in between them. They are mainly dated to the Ottoman Period and most of them are partly pierced in their perimeter. In some cases traces of fiber were present in connection to the coins. It can be therefore assumed that probably the coins were most likely forming shuttle winder.
Besides the coins, three complete earrings as well as parts of fine jewelry were collected.
