“Acheiropoietos of Thessaloniki; a reconsideration of the architecture, the decoration and the history of the Proto-Byzantine basilica from its foundation until the dawn of the 20th century”
The Museum of Byzantine Culture invites you cordially to the lecture of Mr. Konstantinos Raptis, Ph.D. in Archaeology, titled “Acheiropoietos of Thessaloniki; a reconsideration of the architecture, the decoration and the history of the Proto-Byzantine basilica from its foundation until the dawn of the 20th century” on Wednesday 25 April 2018 at 20.00 in the Amphitheatre “Melina Mercouri” of the Museum. Dr. Agathoniki Tsilipakou, director of the Museum, will recite the prologue.
During the lecture an analysis of the architecture, the sculptural and the wall decoration of Acheiropoietos, the best preserved architectural synthesis of Late Antiquity in Thessaloniki, will be made. Moreover, the speaker will present the history of the monument, from its foundation at the end of the 5th or in the beginning of the 6th century, until the liberation of Thessaloniki and its incorporation into the Greek state in the second decade of the 20th century.
