Church of the Dormition of Virgin Mary in Achladochori, Trikala
North-east of “Achladochori” settlement is located the Church of the Dormition of Virgin Mary. The church was built in a rare architectural form, covered with a cross-shaped (or cruciform) roof and having a narthex on the western side. It dates back to the late 13th century and it is one of the few existing nowadays monuments of this particular form and period in the region of Thessaly. The restoration of the church, --involving the reconstruction of the roof, the restoration of the exterior walls to their original form, the protection and strengthening of the wall paintings and the prevention of partial dilapidation during restoration, the restoration of the first stone templon, the construction of drainage network for surface rain waters etc.- was included in the approved Technical Report of Work (T.R.W) and was performed through Community Frame of Support (C.F.S.) funding aiming at the emergence of this infrequent monument and the establishment of a network with other local monuments.
