    1938: Born in Eleusis Born in Eleusis on August 17, 1938. A graduate of the Varvakeion High School of Athens. 1963: Graduates from the University of Athens,
    majoring in Law and Economics. Graduates from the University of Athens,
    majoring in Law and Economics. Receives a scholarship granted by the
    French Government and in 1973 he is declared Doctor of Economic Sciences
    of the University of Paris 1 (Pantheon, Sorbonne). 1968-69: Appointed Instructor and Researcher at the University of Paris 1 (Pantheon-Sorbonne). Director of the Economic Development Institute,
    University of Paris 1. He is actively involved in the struggle against
    the dictatorship (1967-1974). In 1968 the junta deprived him of his
    Greek nationality. 1973: Doctor of EconomicSciences, University of
    Paris 1. From 1969 to 1978 he worked at the above mentioned University
    as an Appointed instructor and Researcher in issues of economic
    development, programming and land use. He has also been director of the
    Economic Development Institute of the same University. 1981: MP for Attica In 1981 he is elected for the
    first time MP with the Panhellenic Socialist Party (PASOK), a status
    which he has held continuously up to this date. 1982-84: Under-Secretary for Commerce He was Deputy
    Minister of Trade from July 1982 to January 1984, at which time he
    assumed duties as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs on European
    Community issues up to 1985. 1984-85: Under-Secretary of State for Foreign
    Affairs In July 1985 he is appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign
    Affairs, remaining in office until the elections of 1989. 1985- 89: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs In the
    period from 1989 to 1993 he is appointed Representative of the Hellenic
    Parliament at the Council of Europe. 1989-93: Representative of the Hellenic Parliament at the Council of Europe 1989-93: Representative of the Hellenic Parliament at the Council of Europe 1993-94: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs 1994: Minister of Transport and Communications 1996-1999: Minister of Foreign Affairs In October
    1993 he is again appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, remaining
    in office until July 1994, at which time he assumes duties as Minister
    of Transport and Communications. In January 1996 he is appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. 2000: Minister of Culture. In April 2000 he is appointed Minister of Culture. He is married and father of two children.
