Conservation of icons of the church of St. Nicholas in Velvento of Kozani
The church of Saint Nicholas in Velvento is an aisleless timber-roofed basilica, which is decorated by the painter Nicolas in 1588. Two despotic and twelve icons of Apostles which belonged to the temple of the church have been the object of restoration. The icons are dated in 1599. They are depicted by the same artist who constructed the temple. The icons were stolen but now are repatriated.
Salts, sootand dust were removed from the icons of the temple using a combination of mechanical and chemical means. Surface consolidations were carried out and their aesthetic view was restored. The restoration is held under the supervision of 17th EBA.
