The Museum of Cycladic Art and the Regional Services of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports (Ephorate of Antiquities of Chania - Ephorate of Antiquities of rethymnon - Ephorate of Antiquities of Herakleion) are co-organizing the exhibition entitled "Crete. Emerging cities: Aptera – Eleutherna – Knossos. Three ancient cities revived" from 12 December 2018 to 30 April 2019.
Aptera, Eleutherna, and Knossos, three emblematic ancient cities, unfold their millennial history in the Museum of Cycladic Art, from their glory and the intensity of their acme to the twilight of their decline, with the liveliness and pulse of the present moment.
The three cities are revealed through the exhibition's numerous artefacts (487 in total), which, preserved in the Antiquities Ephorates' storerooms and museum display cases, leave their birthplace, Crete, for the first time in order to illuminate and narrate most eloquently the exciting lives of the people who lived and created in them.
This exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion and the University of Crete-Museum of Ancient Eleutherna Study Centre, and with the support of the Region of Crete.
