Resolved by the council and people. The Athenian Democracy honours its citizens
The educational programme "Resolved by the council and the people. The Athenian Democracy honours its citizens"presents the honours awarded by the Athenian democracy to Athenian citizens as well as foreigners through honorific decrees. The honours were public praises, wreaths, dinners in the prytaneion, front seats at the contest and theatrical performances, erection of statues. During the programme two honorific inscriptions for Athenian citizens are presented. These are honoured for their outstanding actions for the public service.

The programme is divided in five parts:
A. The introduction to Greek epigraphy, showing the bearers of inscriptions and their categories, as well as their value as sources for the Greek history and their relation with the democratic regime.
B. The historical outline of the development of the Athenian democracy
C. The meaning of the Athenian decrees and the procedure of their issue. The presentation of the honours awarded by the Athenian democracy to Athenian citizens and foreigners.
D. Presentation of the honorific decree for Zopyros the father of a kanephoros, and the epimeletai of the Dionysiac procession and the honorific decree for Protagoras, a priest of Asklepios.
E. WorKshop activities
