Description - Responsibilities:
The Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) is a special service of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. It has been established by the Presidential Edict 97/1999 in order to organise and carry out the works of conservation, restoration and enhancement of the monuments on the Athenian Acropolis. The service following the principles and methodology established by the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments (ESMA) since 1975 implements an acknowledged restoration project regarding monuments of classical architecture using direct labor. The evolvement of a highly qualified personnel in restoration operations on classical monuments and the development of expertise to accelerate their execution have been important contributions to the implementation of restoration interventions on the country’s monuments.
